Avenge the Dead Blog Tour – Organised by #damnpebblesblogtours

Sometimes murder is the only way to get even…

Four friends with dark secrets. One killer out for revenge.

DI Frank Farrell and DS McLeod are tasked with investigating the brutal murder of a defence solicitor’s wife in Dumfries.

It’s been over a year since they left the town after an investigation robbed them of a dear friend. But now they’re back and must find a way to move on.

When the son of another defence solicitor is murdered, a strange tattoo etched on his body, the case takes them into darker, more disturbing territory.

It leads them back into the past – to a horrific fire in a cottage that took a woman’s life, to four friends harbouring dark secrets – and finally to a killer waiting patiently for revenge.

Review:

This book has a big opening scene, I was hooked immediately. Interestingly after this it takes a left turn moving into the present and into a separate murder investigation. The story continues to unfold and you are left to guess when the first puzzle piece fits into the rest of the story.

Its one of my favourite types of crime novel – gritty, hard on the characters. I enjoyed really seeing them work through their issues (I’m not weird I just enjoy the experience), their flaws together and how people are working through the grief of losing one of their own.

The story was well paced, suspenseful and believable. I always allow some artistic license in crime novels however, it doesn’t go too far and feels grounded in real life. No crazy moments where you are left thinking …really?!?

Avenge the Dead is a good stand alone read but I also recommend the rest of the series. Having read all three, I now have an emotional investment in these characters and really hope there are more books to come.
